Timing
Moves that go smoothly usually start earlier than expected. Once you've agreed a location and start date, work backwards from your first day in the practice.
Housing
- Short-term rental for the first few weeks is often sensible
- Suburb research matters more than the city name
- Ask the practice for local insight, they'll usually help
Family
- School enrolment timelines vary by state and system
- Partner work rights depend on your visa
- Community, sport and hobbies help everyone settle
Money and admin
- Opening an Australian bank account (some can be started early)
- Tax file number and superannuation once you arrive
- Health insurance and Medicare enrolment where eligible
- Driver licence and vehicle
Settling in
The first six months feel busy. The best practices know that and support you and your family, not just your onboarding as a clinician. It's fair to ask what that looks like before you accept a role.
We can help you think through the practical side of a move as part of the same conversation about roles and locations.
