How recognition generally works
Medical registration in Australia runs through Ahpra and the Medical Board of Australia. Specialist recognition in radiology is assessed by the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists, which reviews overseas trained specialists against Australian training and decides whether someone is substantially comparable, partially comparable or not comparable. That assessment determines what, if anything, you need to complete before working unsupervised.
Canadian training, including Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada certification, is generally well regarded, but outcomes are assessed individually and requirements change over time. We cannot promise an outcome and neither can anyone else. Please confirm your own position with Ahpra and RANZCR before making plans, and treat this page as background only.
You will also need an appropriate visa. Employer sponsored routes are the most common, and settings are decided by the Department of Home Affairs. A registered migration agent is the right person to advise on your circumstances.

Reporting volumes and workload
Workload expectations differ by practice and by state. It is worth understanding a group's reporting expectations and subspecialty mix before you commit to anything.
Public, private or mixed
Australia has public hospital appointments, large private groups and hybrid arrangements. Each one produces a very different week and a very different income.
Subspecialty demand
Demand varies considerably by subspecialty and location. Some areas are competitive, others have been short for years.
Lifestyle
Most Canadian doctors we speak with are weighing climate, cost of living and family more heavily than pay. That is a reasonable way to make the decision.
How we work
Nothing is shared with an employer without your explicit permission. We would rather have three honest conversations over a few months than rush you into a role that does not fit. If Australia turns out not to be right for you, that is a perfectly good outcome.
